Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What can I expect from working with an Occupational Therapist?
A: We first start with an intake session. During this 60-minute appointment, we will gather detailed information about your lifestyle, areas of struggle and goals. We will then have our first strategy-focused session. This is usually booked within a week or two of the intake session. We begin by exploring which techniques might best support you towards your goals, such as establishing sleep habits, anxiety management skills and daily routines. Therapy sessions are 50 minutes. We will then meet every week or two depending on your needs, preference and availability. We will establish supportive habits to improve your function in day-to-day life. Expect this process to be dynamic and collaborative as we progress towards the life you desire.
Q: What forms of payment do you accept?
A: We currently accept Interact e-transfer. Payment can be sent to erinspencerot@gmail.com. A detailed receipt will be issued following receipt of payment. Receipts can be submitted to your insurer, or claimed on your taxes.
Q: How much are sessions?
A: Session fees are $140 for occupational therapy intake session and for follow up sessions with Erin or Lisa. Fees are $100 for mindfulness coaching, yoga or reiki, offered exclusively by Danielle.
Q: Are you covered by insurance?
A: The answer is – it depends. Each insurance plan is specific to a company, and it is best to check your individual plan to confirm whether occupational therapy is covered. To confirm whether occupational therapy is covered, review the list of healthcare professionals under Paramedical Services.
Q: Are you able to bill my insurer directly?
A: We are able to direct bill for WSIB clients, Blue Cross/Medavie and Greenshield. The majority of insurance providers do not accept direct billing for occupational therapy.
Q: Is occupational therapy covered by OHIP?
A: At this time, OHIP does not cover private occupational therapy services.
Q: Do you offer a sliding scale?
A: Yes, we offered a reserved number of slots for sliding scale clients. Please inquire directly about availability at erinspencerot@gmail.com.
Q: Where are sessions offered?
A: Virtual sessions can be provided to clients living in Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Newfoundland, Labrador and Nova Scotia. In-person sessions are offered by Erin by request.
Q: Do I need a referral to see an Occupational Therapist?
T: No, a referral is not necessary.
Q: How long does it take to see changes?
A: Although everyone’s rate of progress is unique to their needs and goals, typically clients begin to experience noticeable changes within 4-8 months. This may include improvements in routine, decreased feelings of stress and anxiety and increased confidence. However, it’s important not to compare yourself, as each person will experience individual ebbs and flows as they gain life skills and symptom management tools.
